With a wide range of expertise in veterinary medicine, our team is equipped to handle all of your pet’s needs, from routine exams and vaccinations to complex medical procedures.

Our Staff

Carolyn

Practice Manager

Started at CAH in 1994 working as a kennel attendant, part time receptionist and began learning the technical side of Veterinary practice.

After a brief stint in Rio Rancho, NM, she returned to CAH as office manager. She is in charge of all ordering, staff scheduling, and overseeing the day-to-day running of the practice.

She along with her wife, Danielle, are the happy parents of 1 dog and 6 cats, all of which were rescues and saved by the team members here at CAH.

Anne

Vet Assistant

Joined the practice in 1983 after working in the human nursing field. Brings an abundance of experience in pet care with a kind heart and true compassion.

Her expertise is especially noticeable in her surgical nursing and recovery room care of her patients. She has 2 grown sons and is the proud grandma of Mackenzie. Along with husband Jack, she is the proud owner of 5 dogs and 6 cats.

She is also the resident plant caregiver and keeps our green and flowering plants healthy and happy!

Dolores

Vet Assistant

Began working at CAH in august 1996. Dolores cares for the kennel and kenneled pets.

After providing for their needs, she makes sure everything in the hospital is organized and ready for operation the next morning.

Danielle

Certified Veterinary Technician

Danielle brings a wealth of knowledge and a kind heart to her care of our patients. She has been with us for 9 years and has an extensive background in dog and cat care.

She and her husband are the proud parents of two beautiful daughters and 2 beautiful Labrador Retrievers. They also have numerous cats in their pet family.

Nicole

Certified Veterinary Technician

A certified veterinary technician who came to CAH at the beginning of 2015; She graduated with an associate’s degree in small animal care from the University of New Hampshire.

After UNH, Nicole moved to Mount Ida College where she received a bachelor’s degree in veterinary technology. She is the proud owner of 2 shelties, Ahab and Nadia, along with a beautiful palomino quarter horse named Sandie.

In her spare time, she enjoys training her shelties, showing them in conformation, horseback riding, cooking and spending time with friends and family.

Mackenzie

Receptionist

Mackenzie has been a receptionist with Candlewood Animal Hospital since August 2011.

She enjoys learning technician skills and assisting with procedures for both cats and dogs.

In her spare time, she enjoys hiking and fishing with her friends and family. She currently resides with her fiancé and their son, Brayden. Their family also includes their Rottweiler, “Khaleesi”, and 3 rescue cats.

Fran

Receptionist

Started here at CAH in July 2011. Previously worked in the human medical care profession. Took a veterinary assistant’s course about 2 years ago.

Works as a receptionist and at times on patient care. Is proud to give her patients and clients a professional, friendly, and empathetic approach to pet care.

She and her husband have 2 grown children, a labrador retriever named Kolby, a blue and gold macaw named Frankie, freckles their gecko, and some fish. 

Chris

My name is Chris. I’ve been working for Candlewood Animal Hospital for 4 years. I was previously a dog trainer and co-owner of a doggie daycare.

I love working here because it continues my knowledge of the animal world. Our pet family at home consists of our three dogs and 11 lovely chickens.

Conner

Hello, my name is Connor. I recently joined the team at Candlewood Animal Hospital 7 months ago. I have personal experience keeping all kinds of exotic animals including reptiles, fish, birds, and small animals.

I am currently attending school at Penn Foster to become a certified veterinary technician. My hobbies include Saltwater fish keeping, photography, and reading.

I currently have 2 dogs, 4 ferrets, a bearded dragon, a leopard gecko, and a rabbit. When I’m not working, I like to spend my time learning about new animals, practicing photography, and watching marvel movies.

Joanna

My name is Joanna and I have been at CAH for 6 plus years as a technician. I started working for a veterinarian in 1986.

Since that time, I have worn many hats from kennel work to office manager. Over the years I have had many critters from feathered to furred. Currently Bump, our blind cat, rules the house!

Jocelyn

I have been working as a full-time receptionist at Candlewood Animal Hospital since 2021. I reside in New Milford with my husband Tim my two children and my dog.

I enjoy traveling with my family. It has always been my dream to work around animals and now I do!

Meet Our Veterinarians

Dr. Maizel joined Candlewood AH in March of 1989. He partnered with Dr. James Howell who started the practice in 1979. Their partnership lasted until Dr. Howell’s retirement in 2004. Since then he has had the privilege of having many associate veterinarians join the practice.

Raymond Maizel
DVM

Dr. Whitlow grew up in the Finger Lakes region of NY riding and showing Morgan horses. She obtained her B.S. in Animal Science from Cornell before going on to obtain her DVM from Cornell as well. Upon graduation she moved to CT and began practicing small animal medicine.
